Back-to-back wins for Civic Type R TCR in USA
The JAS Motorsport-built Civic Type R TCR won for a second straight IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge at Watkins Glen, USA, to move Honda to within a handful of points of the Manufacturers’ Championship lead.
Unlike at Mid-Ohio, it was KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering duo Rocco Pasquarella and Tim Lewis Jr who scored the victory this time; spectacularly coming from the back of the grid to do so.
Pasquarella who had qualified second, started last after incurring a ride-height penalty post-session, but climbed to fifth by the opening pitstops and Lewis took over the lead with 20 minutes to go.
He did this by passing HART’s Tyler Chambers, who finished fourth after having to manage his fuel consumption over the final stages. Polesitter LP Montour led the first half-hour, but an electrical issue put his Montreal Motorsports Group Civic out.
