Four wins for Civic Type R TCR on successful weekend
Four outright wins - including a treble triumph at the opening round of TCR Denmark - plus another seven class victories made for another successful weekend for JAS Motorsport-built racing cars.
TCR Denmark
Kasper H Jensen got his quest for a sixth-straight title off to a superb start with a double-win for the Mascot Motorsport with Racegroup squad at Padborg Park while his chief 2024 title rival Mike Halder also made it to the top step of the podium.
Jensen’s team-mate, Malte Ebdrup, qualified on pole position but bogged down at the start of Race One, allowing Halder and Jacob Wunderov to burst through to dispute the lead.
They were soon joined by Jensen, who followed Halder past Wunderov but could not match the TPR Motorsport driver, who scored the victory.
Jensen was faster to clear the field in Race Two following the usual reversed-grid start and was rewarded with victory. His final-race success was more straightforward.
Halder added third and second-place finishes while Ebdrup - who won the Under-25s class in all three races - was third, second and third overall.
Wunderov Motorsport driver Wunderov was a two-time winner in the Am class, but had to give best to TPR's Rene Povlsen in the finale as he triumphed following a Saturday engine change. Magnus and Mathias Dall each had at least one class podium.
TCR Chinese Taipei
Shi Shiwei began the season with a straightforward victory for FIST-TEAM AAI after taking the lead at the first corner, and a second-place finish that meant he left Lihpao with the series lead.
Pushing him hardest was Yishung Racing's Stanley Yang, who twice finished third. Pit 58 Racing's Wei Shibin twice won Class B while team-mate Joe Chen took Class C on Sunday.
TCR Europe
Felipe Fernandez was the class of the Diamond Trophy field as the season began at Portimao; the Auto Club RC2 Valles driver qualifying on class pole position and taking the Race Two victory - in second place overall - to lead the standing.
What prevented a clean sweep was the Spaniard being forced off-track to avoid an opening-lap collision that eliminated MM Motorsport's Marco Butti. He recovered to third and then held off Butti in Race Two as the Italian took third overall.
Victor Fernandez - Ruben's team-mate and brother - was fourth and fifth in Diamond while ALM Motorsport's Ruben Volt was eighth in Race Two after a puncture ruined a spectacular charge from 13th to fifth in just four laps on Saturday.
A collision in pitlane between Santi Concepcion Jr (RC2) and Giacomo Ghermandi stopped the latter from starting Race One while the former was twice seventh in the Youth class.
TCR Asia
Team TRC's William Cheung and Euan Chan qualified second and third at Shanghai for an event that doubled-up as the opening round of the TCR China Challenge. Chan finished third in Race Two while Cheung's best result was fourth on Saturday.
TRC ran five cars, including one for inaugural series champion Michael Choi - seventh in Race One - while Terence Tse was 13th in Race Two and Tommy Ku's Saturday retirement prevented him from starting on Sunday. Spark Racing's Jerry Ran was fourth in Race Two.
TCR China
Henry Ho made a strong start to the season at Shanghai as the MacPro Racing Team driver finished fifth and fourth in the two races while new team-mate Zhu Cheng scored a best result of 21st in Race Two.
Team TRC pair Frederick Lee and James Tang qualified eighth and 11th, but endured frustrating races. Norris Racing duo Tony Chan and Siu Ming Man each scored best results of 12th while Spark Racing's Yun Jie Zhou was 10th in Race Two.
British GT Championship
Bridger Motorsport continued their season at Silverstone where Johnny Ip and Luke Garlick finished fifth in the Silver-Am class aboard their Honda NSX GT3 Evo 22.
The pair had qualified fourth, but another impressive opening stint by Hong Kong racer Ip promoted the car into a podium position. A number of unfortunately-timed Full-Course Cautions and Safety Car periods prevented any further progress.
